More ribs means more Mescaline ?
This 6-ribbed Peruvian Torch Cactus plant has a larger surface area on the outside.
And therefore probably contains more Mescaline than Peruvian Torch Cacti with fewer ribs !
Ribs on the San Pedro Cactus
Peruvian Torch Cacti can have a different number of vertical ribs.
Usually Peruvian Torch Cacti have 5 or 6 ribs, but 4 ribs or 7 or 8 ribs also occur very occasionally.
False San Pedro Cacti often have 7 or 8 ribs !
False San Pedro Cacti usually have 7 or 8 ribs, and sometimes more.
They often have a thick stem and also very short spines up to a few millimetres long.
But they do not contain any Mescaline....!
So be careful if you want to buy a real San Pedro Cactus with 7 or 8 ribs !
Growth of the San Pedro Cactus
This Peruvian Torch Cactus is well rooted and grows immediately at home.
A fully rooted Peruvian Torch in a large pot grows about 30 cm and more per year !
Mescaline layer
This rooted Peruvian Torch is a potted, thick, strong, green to blue-grey cutting from a large plant.
Cuttings have a thicker green chlorenchyma layer than seeded plants.
This tissue layer located below the epidermis contains relatively the most Mescaline.
The real Trichocereus peruvianus, even as a large plant, has short spines up to 2 cm in length !
And a V-shaped groove above each areole (= thorn cushion).
Making cuttings
Optionally, you can cut off the top 4 cm of the Peruvian Torch Cactus, and let this cutting root.
The lower part of the Peruvian Torch Cactus will then make several new cuttings (offshoots).
TRIP
Grow right on at home, in a spacious pot some 30 cm or more in length per year.
Peruvian Torch Cacti are flowerable from about 30 cm in length, provided they get enough sun!
