 Extinct in the wild ?
At its natural site, this Mescaline Cactus has not been found again.
They have probably been eaten by an ever-growing population of goats.

WHAT IS A BALD SAN PEDRO CACTUS ?
The Bald San Pedro Cactus (Echinopsis scopulicola = Trichocereus scopulicolus) is hardly known.
It is perhaps the most beautiful columnar Mescaline Cactus !
This Mescaline Cactus contains relatively high amounts of Mescaline (alkaloid), see this review .
The thorns are barely visible and tangible !

No San Pedro Cactus with shorter spines
The Bald San Pedro Cactus is thus a different botanical species from the San Pedro Cactus (Trichocereus pachanoi).
And is therefore not a San Pedro Cactus with short thorns.
Entirely thornless San Pedro Cacti are not known.

 Description
The Bald San Pedro can grow about 4 metres tall, and grows about 10 cm thick.
This Mescaline Cactus grows quickly, just like the San Pedro Cactus, Peruvian Torch and Bald San Pedro Cactus.
The colour of the body is dark green, always without a grey or blue-grey haze.
The number of ribs is 4, 5 or 6.

 Thorn length
The spines are maximum about 1 mm long, and are barely visible and tangible.
The thorns of our Bare San Pedro Cacti are even shorter and barely tangible !

 Mescaline content
The Mescaline content is comparable to the San Pedro and Peruvian Torch.
See also the latest research on the Mescaline content of 14 Trichocereus species.

 Use in Australia
In Australia, the bare San Pedro Cactus and the San Pedro Cactus had been used together for many years.
The botanical difference between the two species was not known to users there.
Apparently, users did not notice any difference in effects either !

 False Bald San Pedro Cacti
False Bald San PEdros have a spine length longer than 1 millimetre.
They are probably crosses (hybrids) with other San Pedro Cactus species and forms.
 So look carefully !

THE BALD SAN PEDRO CACTUS AND THE LAW

Is the Bald San Pedro Cactus a Drug Cactus ?
The Bald San Pedro Cactus belongs to the drug cacti because it has hallucinogenic effects.
The Bald San Pedro Cactus contains the psychoactive alkaloid Mescaline.
There is a relatively high amount of Mescaline in the Bald San Pedro Cactus.

The Opium Act and the Bald San Pedro Cactus
The Bald San Pedro Cactus is not on list 1 or list 2 of the Dutch Opium Act.
This means that the Bald San Pedro Cactus can be freely grown, traded and transported in the Netherlands.
The government apparently does not see Drug Cacti as dangerous.

 Mescaline and the Opium Act
The Bare San Pedro Cactus does contain Mescaline, which as a substance is mentioned in the Opium Act.
You are not allowed to grow, trade or transport Mescaline as a substance.

 WHAT ARE CACTI?

Cacti are plants characterised by the possession of areoles.
Areoles are thickenings on the stem from which hairs, thorns, buds, flowers and fruits grow.
Cacti have thorns or hairs and usually no leaves.

 Thorns
Cacti's thorns evolved (gradually developed) from leaves.
The thorns protect a Cactus from the sun and from being eaten by animals.

 Cacti are drought plants (xerophytes)
Cacti are drought plants (xerophytes) adapted to survive dry conditions.
 Adaptations to drought periods include:
a thicker wax layer, fewer stomata, water cells, no leaves, resting periods, special metabolism.

 Succulents
Cacti belong to the succulents (Succulents).
Succulents are plants that store water in their roots, stems and leaves.
Succulents are also built to survive drought periods (xerophytes).

 Metabolism
In hot weather, Cacti keep their stomata closed during the day to prevent evaporation.
In the evening and at night, they have their stomata open to assimilate.
In doing so, they take in carbon dioxide (CO2), and expel oxygen (O2).

 Habitat
Cacti grow in arid areas such as semi-deserts, but not in deserts.
Cacti grow in all but one species in North America and South America.
