Intro
Lava meal is a very fine powder of ground basalt-lava (also: bazalt-lava) of natural volcanic origin.
This rock meal from lava rocks contains a lot of natural minerals that enhance Cacti and other plants.
The minerals in the lava meal enrich the soil and strengthen the plant.
Due to the very fine powder form of this volcanic rock dust, you need relatively little.
When using lava meal, the structure of the soil is maintained, as lava meal does not contain coarse chunks like clay.
In organic farming and horticulture, lava meal is used as a strengthening additive.
It is an authorised adjuvant.

Applications of lava meal
1. Enrichment with more minerals of all types of soil:
Seedling soil, Cuttings soil, Potting soil, Cactus soil, Succulent soil, Garden soil.
2. To replace clay and loess in all soil mixtures.
3. As a biological pesticide against insects.
Insects do not like it, or suffocate due to the fine powder.
Spray lava powder on the leaves of plants, succulents, shrubs, and trees.
Or on the body of Cacti.
4. Applicable to all types of plants, shrubs and trees:

Effects of adding Lava meal
You can add Lava meal to enrich any soil with minerals, which:

Release of minerals in Lava meal
With every contact with water, these minerals dissolve a little bit in the water.
This can be rainwater from a downpour, but also watering water (watering can, spraying) or groundwater.
Raining, pouring, or watering causes the lava meal to be flushed further and further into the soil.
The slowly released minerals are absorbed by plant roots.

Solubility of minerals in water
The quantities below are per 1000 kilograms of Lava meal.
240 grams of K2O = 0.024
160 grams of Na2O = 0.016 %.
570 grammes of CaO = 0.057 %.
100 grams of MgO = 0.01 %.
Acidic water significantly increases the solubility of minerals !
Often by a factor of 50 or more (= 50 x as much or more).

Use of lava meal by cacti, plants, shrubs and trees
Plants use the absorbed minerals in their metabolism and photosynthesis.
The minerals in lava powder are used by plants as:
1. Nutrient
Magnesium-oxide (MgO) .
Calcium oxide (CaO) .
Phosphorus oxide (P2O5) .
Potassium oxide (K2O) .
2. Trace element
Iron, boron, copper, manganese, zinc.
3. Strengthening mineral
aluminium oxide (Al203) .
Silicon oxide (SiO2) , forms silica in water and strengthens plant tissue.

Application of Lava meal
Lava meal dissolved in pouring water can be applied to already rooted plants, shrubs and trees.
1. Manually mix lava meal into the soil,
2. Dissolve lava meal in pouring water, pour along the plant, shrub or tree.
Or pour water with dissolved Lava meal over your plants, then pour with water without Lava meal.
This will wash residual Lava meal off the plants.
3. Sprinkle Lava meal on the soil or on your lawn.
Then water if necessary, or wait for rain.

Lava meal dosage
Lava meal is very fine so you need relatively little.
Potting soil: 10 - 50 kg per m3 (= 1000 litres).
Lawn: 1 kg per 10 m2 per year.
Trees: 0.5 - 2 kg per 10 m2 per year.
You can always start with a low dosage.
Depending on the result, you can add more Lava meal later.

Advantages of Lava meal over clay
Of a lump of clay, only the outside gives off minerals.
Finely ground Lava powder has a very large surface area, and thus gives off many more minerals per gram.
A lump of clay is impermeable to roots.
Chunks of clay fill the pot, leaving less space for roots, water, nutrients and air.
The surface area of Lava meal is about 40 m2 per gram of lava powder !

Composition of our Lava meal
This lava meal contains lots of different minerals.
These minerals occur as compounds with oxygen (oxides).
Lava meal contains mainly compounds of metal oxides, which dissolve minimally in water.
Among others, it contains Magnesium and Iron, both of which are needed in the formation of chlorophyll (chlorophyll).

Our grey coloured lava meal comes from the Eifel mountains in Germany.
The lava meal is therefore extracted close to the Netherlands.

Lava meal is packed in strong transparent plastic bags.
Larger quantities of Lava meal are packed per 5 kilograms.
So you never have to lift more than 5 kilograms.
