SQUARE POTS

All square plastic pots offered are used, pliable, plastic pots that will last for years to come (> 5 - 10 years).
The square pots are made of soft plastic, making them pliable and unbreakable. 
These square pots do not dry out in the heat, as inflexible hard plastic pots do. 
Square pots are usually slightly taller than wide. 

1. Condition of the used square pots
The used square pots are expected to last for many years (> 5 - 10 years).
The square pots are undamaged and not dried out.
The square pots are made of soft plastic, which makes them flexible and unbreakable. 
These pots do not dry out in the heat, as inflexible hard plastic pots do. 
The pots often still contain some peat fibres or peat particles.

2. Shape of square pots
Square pots are square at the top and at the bottom.
Square pots are slightly narrower at the bottom than at the top.
They therefore become wider towards the top.

3. Colours of the square pots
The square pots are only available in the colour black.

4. Application of square pots
Due to their greater height, square pots are more suitable for :
1. Cacti with long taproots like all Peyote Cacti (Lophophora species). 
The long roots can grow further down in a tall pot.
For example, the pot size 7 x 7 x 8 cm is suitable for Peyote Cacti up to about 7 cm in diameter.

2. Columnar Cacti that can be potted slightly deeper.
Especially suitable for all columnar Trichocereus species.
The columnar cactus then stands more firmly in the cactus soil.
The higher pot has more volume and thus contains more soil with water and nutrients.
Plants can absorb more nutrients for longer, resulting in faster growth !

3. sowing, because the soil in a higher pot stays moist longer than in a lower pot.
E.g. the pot size 7 x 7 x 8 cm is very suitable for sowing.


5. Sizes of square pots
All square pots have a size indication in centimetres.

5.1 Sizes used
1. the width of the top of the pot in centimetres.
2. the height from the bottom to the top in centimetres.
Thus, the length of a square pot is equal to its height.

5.2 Measurement
The size of a square pot is width x width x height.
The width is measured at the top of the square pot.
The width at the bottom of a square pot is smaller than at the top.

Example of size designation
12 x 12 x 20 
This is a square pot with a width from the top of 12 cm.
And a height/length from bottom to top of 20 centimetres.

5.3 Height of normal square pots
The height of a normal square pot is about a centimetre longer than width at the top.
For example: width x width x height = 7 x 7 x 8 cm

5.4 Low square pots
There are also low square pots (= wide pots) whose height is lower than their width.
E.g. width x width x height = 7 x 7 x 6 cm.

5.5 Slightly higher square pots
Slightly higher square pots are slightly higher than the width of the pot.
But not as high as the tall square pots.
E.g. width x width x height = 23 x 23 x 25 cm.

5.6 Tall square pots
Tall square pots are much taller than the width of the pot.
E.g. width x width x height = 12 x 12 x 20 cm.



6. Advantages of square pots

6.1 Advantages of a normal square pot
1. The stem can be planted slightly deeper into the soil, which gives more strength.
2. The content of a square pot is larger than that of a round pot.
This allows all Trichocereus species to make more roots.
The more roots, the stronger the growth!
3. More uniform temperature of the contents of a square pot.
The contents of a square pot are less sensitive to changes in temperature.
The sides of a square pot have less contact with the outside air,
because the contiguous square tops of the pots let little air through to the bottom.
The contents of a square pot therefore heat up less quickly, and cool down more slowly.
4. easy orderly placement of pots on a table or in a container.
5. Easier to pick up a row of square pots measuring 7 x 7 x 8 or 9 x 9 x 10 cm.

6.2 Advantages of a tall square pot
1. The stem can be planted even deeper into the soil, giving even more strength.
2. The content of a tall square pot is even larger than that of a normal square pot.
This allows all Trichocereus species to make even more roots.
More roots mean more absorption of water and food, and thus stronger growth!
3. The contents of a tall square pot :
-- is even more homogeneous (more even) in temperature than a square pot.
-- is therefore even less sensitive to changes in temperature.
-- heats up even less quickly, and cools down even more slowly.

Explanation:
The surface area of the sides of a tall square pot is larger than that of a normal square pot.
The air let through between the tops flows into a larger space between the pots.
The let-through hot or cold air is thus more diluted, and therefore has less influence.
4. Easier orderly placement of pots on a table or in a tray.
5. Easier to pick up a row of square pots measuring 7 x 7 x 8 or 9 x 9 x 10 cm.


7. Disadvantages of square pots

7.1 Disadvantages of a normal square pot
1. The corners of a square pot are further away from the centre of the pot.
So the roots have to grow further to reach a corner.
2. Faster cooling and faster heating in each corner of a square pot.
3. It will therefore be slightly more humid in the corners of a square pot.


VIERKANTE POTTEN

Alle aangeboden vierkante plastic potten zijn gebruikte, buigzame, plastic potten die nog jaren mee gaan (> 5 - 10 jaar).
De vierkante potten zijn van zacht plastic gemaakt, en daardoor buigzaam en onbreekbaar. 
Deze vierkante potten verdrogen niet in de hitte, zoals onbuigzame hard plastic potten wel doen. 
Vierkante potten zijn meestal iets hoger dan breed. 

1. Conditie van de gebruikte vierkante potten
De gebruikte vierkante potten gaan naar verwachting nog jarenlang mee (> 5 - 10  jaar).
De vierkante potten zijn gaaf, en niet verdroogd.
De vierkante potten zijn van zacht plastic gemaakt, en daardoor buigzaam en onbreekbaar. 
Deze potten verdrogen niet in de hitte, zoals onbuigzame hard plastic potten wel doen. 
In de potten zitten vaak nog enkele turfvezels of turf-deeltjes.

2. Vorm van vierkante potten
Vierkante potten zijn vierkant aan de bovenkant en aan de onderkant.
Vierkante potten zijn zijn de onderzijde iets smaller dan aan de bovenzijde.
Ze worden dus naar boven toe steeds breder.

3. Kleuren van de vierkante potten
De vierkante potten zijn alleen verkrijgbaar in de kleur zwart.

4. Toepassing van vierkante potten
Door de grotere hoogte zijn vierkante potten geschikter voor :
1. Cactussen met lange penwortels zoals alle Peyote Cactussen (Lophophora soorten). 
    De lange wortels kunnen in een hoge pot verder naar beneden groeien.
    Bijv. de pot met potmaat 7 x 7 x 8 cm is geschikt voor Peyote Cactussen tot zo'n 7 cm diameter.

2. Zuil-Cactussen die iets dieper opgepot kunnen worden.
    Vooral geschikt voor alle zuilvormige Trichocereus soorten.
    De zuilcactus staat dan stabieler (steviger) in de Cactusgrond.
    De hogere pot heeft meer inhoud, en bevat dus meer grond met water en voedingsstoffen.
    Planten kunnen langer en meer voedingsstoffen opnemen, met als resultaat een snellere groei !

3. het zaaien, omdat de grond in een hogere pot langer vochtig blijft dan in een lagere pot.
    Bijv. de pot met potmaat 7 x 7 x 8 cm is heel geschikt om in te zaaien.

5. Maten van vierkante potten
Alle vierkante potten hebben een maat-aanduiding in centimeters.

5.1 Gebruikte maten
1. de breedte van de bovenzijde van de pot in centimeters.
2. de hoogte van de benedenkant naar de bovenkant in centimeters.
De lengte van een vierkante pot is dus gelijk aan de hoogte.

5.2 Maat-aanduiding
De maat van een vierkante pot is breedte x breedte x hoogte.
De breedte wordt gemeten aan de bovenkant van de vierkante pot.
De breedte van de onderkant van een vierkante pot is kleiner dan aan de bovenkant.

Voorbeeld van de maat-aanduiding
12 x 12 x 20 
Dit is een vierkante pot met een breedte van de bovenkant van 12 cm.
En een hoogte / lengte van beneden naar boven van 20 centimeter.

5.3 Hoogte van normale vierkante potten
De hoogte van een normale vierkante pot is zo'n centimeter langer dan breedte aan de bovenkant.
Bijvoorbeeld: breedte x breedte x hoogte = 7 x 7 x 8 cm

5.4 Lage vierkante potten
Er bestaan ook lage vierkante potten (= brede potten) waarvan de hoogte lager is dan de breedte.
Bijv. breedte x breedte x hoogte = 7 x 7 x 6 cm.

5.5 Iets hogere vierkante potten
Iets hogere vierkante potten zijn iets hoger dan de breedte van de pot.
Maar niet zo hoog als de hoge vierkante potten.
Bijv. breedte x breedte x hoogte = 23 x 23 x 25 cm.

5.6 Hoge vierkante potten
Hoge vierkante potten zijn veel hoger dan de breedte van de pot.
Bijv. breedte x breedte x hoogte = 12 x 12 x 20 cm.


6. Voordelen van vierkante potten

6.1 Voordelen van een normale vierkante pot
1. De stam kan iets dieper in de grond worden geplant, wat meer stevigheid geeft.
2. De inhoud van een vierkante pot is groter dan van een ronde pot.
    Hierdoor kunnen alle Trichocereus-soorten meer wortels maken.
    Hoe meer wortels, hoe sterker de groei !
3. Homogenere (gelijkmatigere) temperatuur van de inhoud van een vierkante pot.
    De inhoud van een vierkante pot is minder gevoelig voor wisselingen van de temperatuur.
    De zijkanten van een vierkante pot hebben minder contact met de buitenlucht,
    want de aaneengesloten vierkante bovenkanten van de potten laten weinig lucht door naar onder.
    De inhoud van een vierkante pot wordt daarom minder snel warm, en koelt langzamer af.
4. het gemakkelijk ordelijk neerzetten van potten op een tafel of in een bak.
5. Makkelijker oppakken van een rij met vierkante potjes van 7 x 7 x 8 of 9 x 9 x 10 cm.

6.2 Voordelen van een hoge vierkante pot
1. De stam kan nog dieper in de grond worden geplant, wat nog meer stevigheid geeft.
2. De inhoud van een hoge vierkante pot is nog groter dan bij een normale vierkante pot.
    Hierdoor kunnen alle Trichocereus-soorten nog meer wortels maken.
    Meer wortels zorgen voor meer opname van water en voedsel, en dus een sterkere groei !
3. De inhoud van een hoge vierkante pot :
     -- is nog homogener (gelijkmatiger) van temperatuur dan een vierkante pot.
     -- is dus nog minder gevoelig voor wisselingen van de temperatuur.
     -- wordt nog minder snel warm, en koelt nog langzamer af.

    Verklaring:
    Het oppervlak van de zijkanten van een hoge vierkante pot is groter dan bij een normale vierkante pot.
    De tussen de bovenkanten doorgelaten lucht stroomt in een grotere ruimte tussen de potten.
    De doorgelaten warme of koude lucht wordt dus meer verdund, en heeft daardoor minder invloed.
4. Het makkelijker ordelijk neerzetten van potten op een tafel of in een bak.
5. Makkelijker oppakken van een rij met vierkante potjes van 7 x 7 x 8 of 9 x 9 x 10 cm.

7. Nadelen van vierkante potten

7.1 Nadelen van een normale vierkante pot
1. De hoeken van een vierkante pot zitten verder weg van het centrum van de pot.
    De wortels moeten dus verder groeien om een hoek te bereiken.
2. Snellere afkoeling en snellere verwarming in elke hoek van een vierkante pot.
3. Het zal daarom iets vochtiger zijn in de hoeken van een vierkante pot.
